第四章 High days and holidays:In this chapter we are going to learn three passages related to festivals. Upon learning these articles, we will learn some new words, cultural phenomena as well as some writing techniques. Students will get a deeper understanding of both Chinese and western festivals through the completion of the unit task on the comparison between Chinese and western festivals.4.1Lead-in:In this session we will introduce briefly the contents of this chapter and the group task related to this chapter.
4.2Structure:In this part we will learn about the structure and style of Passage Two. Specifically, we will learn how to organize arguments and how to use irony and metaphor.
4.3Vocabulary:We will focus on the important words and sentences in the text passages in this session. Some commonly used festival-related words and expressions are explained in this part. We will also cover the future perfect tense, fronting and the usage of “as”.
4.4Reading Across Culture:In this part we are going to learn about the traditions of the Day of the Dead through the reading-across-culture passage. We will learn this Mexican festival’s cultural indications and connotations and try to compare it to the Chinese Qing Ming Festival.
4.5Writing:In this last session we will learn three writing techniques in regards to how to describe a festival. Sample sentences and a passage will show students the application of these writing techniques.
