第五章 Fine structures of Atoms:The electron moving around the nucleus produce a circle current, which shows that electron has magnetic moment. The electron not only has the magnetic moment from orbital but also has the one from spin. The quantum number of spin is 1/2. The total angular momentum of electron should include the orbital angular momentum and spin momentum. They will couple together to generate the fine structure of atom. 5.5Intrinsic Spin:The electron has an intrinsic spin with half integer to explain the Stern-Gerlach experiment.
5.6Nuclear Megnetic resonance:The spin of nucleus will interact with the external magnetic field.
5.7Total Magnetic moment:A total magnetic moment should include the contributions from orbital angular moment and spin angular moment
5.8Spin-orbit coupling:The spin magnetic moment of electron is influenced by the magnetic field generated by the orbital angular moment.
5.9Zeeman effect:The spectrum of atom will be affected by an external magnetic field.
5.10Selection rules:The transitions between two energy levels should satisfy the selection rules.
5.11Anomalous Zeeman effect:A atom without total spin zero has the anomalous Zeeman effect in an external magnetic field.
5.12Polarization of Zeeman effect:The spectrum from the Zeeman effect is polarized.
5.13Grotrian Diagram:The Grotrian diagram is a very simple scheme to discuss the Zeeman effect.
