第三章 Bohr's Model of the Hydrogen:The Rutherford model cannot explain the stability of atom from the classics physics. Bohr gave three assumptions to describe the hydrogen and explained the spectrum of hydrogen reasonably. The Rydberg equation can be derived by Bohr’s model. Sommerfeld extended the Bohr model to ellipse orbital and relativistic framework to explain the more complicated spectrum of atom. For the heavy atom, there are also the penetration and shielding effects.3.1The classical Atomic Model:The atom was studied with classical mechanics in Rutherford model.
3.2Bohr model:Bohr proposed three assumptions for atom to overcome the problems in Rutherford model.
3.3The spectrum of hydrogen:The structure of atom can be extracted from the spectrum of hydrogen.
3.4The correspondence principle:The theory in microscopic world can be connected with classic physics in some limits.
3.5The Rydberg equation:The Bohr model can explain the empirical spectrum formula, Rydberg equation.
3.6Atomic Excitation by Electrons:The electrons in atom can be excited to high energy levels.
3.7The extension of Bohr model:Sommerfield extended the Bohr model to ellipse orbit and relativistic framework.
3.8Penetration and shielding effects:In the many-electrons atom, the Bohr model should be modified.
3.9Exercise:There are several exercises about the Bohr model.
