第六章 Maker Movement in China：With the development of science and technology , there are some people who have creative ideas and the ability to design, they gather and set up some organizations to make their ideas into reality without the aim of profit. So the maker movement occurs, and it is is very popular all over the world.6.1Opener:There is a brief introduction to maker, makerspace and the maker movement in this section, such as it’s background, core concept and it’s development.
6.2Reading & Interacting:The maker movement is now gaining ground in China and makerspaces like Xinchejian and Seeed Studio are open to the public. A maker is someone who builds, creates or hacks physical materials . They are different from the traditional inventors who tinkered in garages. Makers often use software to design objects to be produced by desktop machines like 3-D printers. And they often cooperate and share their ideas online. The Chinese government is supporting this movement by building more government-supported innovation houses and organizing maker carnivals . And it is hoped that this movement can help Chinese industry move to a new stage. There are also some difficult sentences explained and analyzed in this section.
6.3Language Focus:Different kinds of Suffixation are introduced in this part. And two sentence patterns of the more....the more.....and “subject + participle phrase”are interpreted and exercised afterwards.
6.4Viewing and Listening:In this short video, Nemo talks about his life as a maker. Students are required to view a short video about him and focus only on what he has to say in response to the three questions listed below. Then, they will have to fill in the blanks with the words or phrases they get from the video clip by listening to it again.
6.5Speaking:In this section, students are required to work in a group of four to five people and decide upon a product that they are going to make together. Then prepare for a five-minute oral presentation about their project.
6.6Writing:In this section, students, on one hand, are allowed to write a paragraph about the possible benefits of bringing the maker movement into the classroom,When they have finished, exchanged their writing with a partner, using the required criteria for evaluation.On the other hand, students are allowed to write a Letter of congratulation for practical writing according to some specific requirements.
