第一章 Living Green:In this unit ,we shall talk about how to live a green life. We have all heard warnings of the dangers arising from global coal, oil and gas. Even without that danger the world faces the problem that many of the resources on which we rely will run out one day if we continue to use them at an ever—creasing rate. So everyone should do small things in daily life to conserve resources.1.1Opener:In this section, we shall look at some pictures and work with partners to talk about the negative impact of our modern lifestyle on the environment and how to live green in our daily lives. Everybody should make an effort to make a difference to our environment.
1.2Reading & Interacting:In the section, the text shares a story about how the writer and her family move from the city Las Vegas to the remote countryside and discover the simple life. The family accomplished their will in the country, in other words, they learn how to live green.There are also some difficult sentences explained and analyzed in this section, where it used as formal subject is involved.
1.3Language Focus:In this section, four kinds of transitive verbs followed by another verb as an object are introduced. When a transitive verb is followed by another verb as an object, sometimes it can only use infinitive, sometimes it can only use v-ing forms, sometimes it can use infinitive or v-ing forms with the same meaning, sometimes it can use infinitive or v-ing forms with different meanings. In addition, we deal with the use of the emphatic it and the use of the anticipatory it.
1.4Viewing and Listening:In this section, a short video clip in this part introduces a couple who moved to the woods to live in a tiny home without electricity. Diana was looking for emptiness when she came here seven years ago . But over time, that has changed. Now she is here, like her husband, in search of completeness.
1.5Speaking:In this section, students are required to form groups of 4-5 students to do some training exercise to improve your speaking skills. After watching a video clip of Alison Zeuschel and her family, you will get some information to do an interview on lifestyle issues in a group of five people.
1.6Writing:In this section, on one hand, students are required to write a paragraph about what you can do in your daily life with regard to green, sustainable living. When you have finished, exchange your writing with a partner, using the criteria for evaluation.On the other hand, students are required to learn the writing of English CV.
